1. Is there a prerequisite or
pre-approval for taking the exam?
Yes. You
must be pre-approved by the
Professional Testing Corporation.
2. Where can I obtain study materials?

3. Is there a practice test available?
Currently, there is not a practice test for
this exam.
4. What materials may I bring into the
test center?
These 3 references are to be used during Part 2, the open
book portion of the exam:
a) AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, 6th Ed.
b) International Classification of Diseases for Oncology,
3rd Ed. (ICD-O-3)
c) Collaborative Staging Manual and Coding Instructions,
version 01.03.00
5. How long is the examination?
The 250-question multiple choice exam is a
total of 4.5 hours;
3 hours maximum is allotted for Part 1. After completing the
first 200 items (Part 1), candidates will indicate they are
completely
finished with Part 1 since candidates will NOT be able to go
back to the first 200 items after the break. There will be a
mandatory break in between Parts 1 & 2 to allow for the
introduction of the reference materials needed for Part 2. Any
extra time from Part 1 may be carried over to Part 2, which is a
minimum of 1.5 hours.
6. When will I receive my results?
At the end of the exam, candidates will receive a printout
that confirms their completion of the examination. Candidates
will receive an unofficial test results report prior to leaving
the testing center. Candidates are not eligible to use the
CTR credential until their official score is received.
Candidates will be notified in writing by PTC within 6 weeks of
the close of the testing period whether they have officially
passed or failed the examination. Scores on the major
areas of the examination and on the total examination will also
be reported.
7. What is the passing score of the
exam?
NCRA’s Council on Certification has set
the passing score at
175 (out of 250 total questions).
8. How long do I have to pass the test?
You may take the test once per examination
window. The
examination windows for 2008 are:
March 1 to March 15
September 13 to September 27
9. If I fail the exam, how long do I
have to wait before retesting?
Will I have to pay to retest?
You will need to contact PTC at 212-356-0661 to re-apply to take the exam an additional time.
You
will be required to pay an additional fee to re-test
10. If I miss my appointment, do I have
to pay again to reschedule?
If you do not give 24-hours notice, you
will forfeit your test fee.
You will be required to pay the exam fee again to reschedule.
